Promoting equality through innovation
Before attending Fuqua, I had the privilege of supporting a diverse range of entrepreneurs, from micro-business owners in the slums of Montevideo to high-impact women entrepreneurs. My passion has always been rooted in economic development and equity. Fuqua allowed me to refine my focus on social impact and expand my roles and geographic reach. Since graduating, I’ve dedicated my career to leading transformational projects, programs, and organizations, creating the conditions for teams to succeed in making a meaningful impact. I’ve had the incredible chance to work with employment social enterprises, international development organizations, and nonprofits, both locally and internationally, bringing business and management tools to the service of their mission.
An important skill for my profession
Working collaboratively with colleagues from three different continents. My primary focus is leading all internal projects and initiatives that support our organization’s mission, such as strategic planning or managing internal funding opportunities. This work provides a solid foundation for my colleagues’ incredible efforts to secure land rights for millions of the world’s poorest. I feel fortunate to work for a social justice organization where I can apply the tools I acquired in business school to a cause dedicated to creating sustained, deep change to address poverty.
A recent impact highlight I am proud of
In my current role, I focus on long-term organizational projects aimed at driving systemic change, which I find deeply fulfilling. For example, I am working on shifting our organization from a headquarters-driven leadership model to one that distributes power and authority to those on the ground in the Global South. This process involves extensive listening, strategic thinking, leadership development, empowerment, organizational design, and problem-solving. I am honored to be part of this transformative journey, contributing to meaningful and lasting change.
A resource I recommend to impact professionals
“Manifesto for a Moral Revolution” by Jacqueline Novogratz. It is an inspirational yet practical guide on how to work in the social impact world in a way that is deeply rooted in values, a clear vision, and much hope. It serves as a great reminder of what makes social impact work such a transformational journey. I also encourage reading it as part of a book club or discussion group, which makes the experience 10 times richer! Acumen Academy offers a great course to do so.
My tip for those pursuing a career in impact
Dream big, but keep your feet firmly grounded. Pursuing this type of work requires a blend of idealism with realism and practicality. This balance is crucial for making things happen. Never lose sight of either!
