Summer Internship with A Healthier Democracy
Alicia Wang, Daytime MBA 2026
This summer I worked with A Healthier Democracy on the commercialization model for Link Health, an AI powered patient navigation initiative that helps patients access social supports such as benefits enrollment and care navigation so medical care actually sticks. As an MBA Strategy and Operations Intern, I focused on turning mission into math, building pricing and financial models, a clinic ROI calculator, staffing maps for patient navigators.
My work unlocked our first monetization partnerships, pilots with Oak Street Health and Mass General Brigham, by clarifying the value to clinics and payers and the resources required to deliver it consistently. The work showed leaders how the service translates into outcomes for patients and reliable delivery.
Fuqua showed up daily in structured problem solving, customer segmentation, and financial storytelling, translating impact into clear unit economics and practical workflows. The most rewarding moments were hearing from clinic teams that the plan made it easier for patients to get connected on the first visit.
Going forward, I plan to build a career at the intersection of health and technology. This internship showed me equity scales when stories, data, and operations align. I am excited to carry these lessons into roles where I can help what actually improves patients’ lives.
This internship was supported by the Summer Internship Fund, which enables first-year Duke MBA students to learn about the rewards and challenges of using business to drive positive impact without making a significant financial sacrifice. The program enables organizations that otherwise could not afford to hire MBA student interns to benefit from students’ expertise. Funds are raised through student fundraising and from donors who believe in the mission of the program. If you would like to contribute, you can donate online using your credit card.
